Central Indiana Cycling and other neighborhood led groups have been working with Indy DPW on several 2026 Community Powered Infrastructure projects. These are safety temporary safety demonstration projects that typically include traffic calming and crosswalk safety improvements. These projects often lead to permanent or semi-permanent safety improvements while allowing for learning and adjustments that make the final street design safer for all road users.

- 46th Street and the Monon Trail – 46th St has a wide curve ahead of the Monon Trail crossing. Due to speed and limited sightlines, that crosswalk is a safety hazard. Just east of the Monon Trail, there is a busy youth baseball park on 46th St. This community group plans to install a temporary traffic calming project that separates the bike lanes from the traffic lanes while increasing safety for several crosswalks. - 16th Street and the Monon Trail – Planned installation date Saturday, April 25th. This project is currently recruiting volunteers. Donations are being accepted to help fund the mural by local artists. This dangerously wide rail trail crossing will be narrowed to one lane each way, while adding parallel parking to better serve nearby businesses.
- Harshman Middle School, E 10th St – Installation planned for April 18th. Deidre Fallon and the Harshman Middle School FSTA have organized a tactical urbanism project on East 10th Street in front of Harshman Middle School and Theodore Potter Elementary. The project will increase safety on 10th Street for all road users. The project will be in place from April-October. If you have questions about this project, contact Diedre Fallon.
- Troy Ave in the Southside – This project is installing a temporary multiuse path between Shelby St, the Red Line bus station, a school, and an existing multiuse trail on Troy Ave. The installation is being planned for late April.
