In our Midwest city, where annual snowfall averages 25.5 inches, winter conditions can create significant barriers to mobility and accessibility for months at a time. We advocate for more consistent and timely snow removal on trails and bike lanes, as well as stronger policies and enforcement to ensure sidewalks are safely cleared for all.

Actions
We’ve created action by publishing plans, supporting DPW Board members, mobilizing the community to reach out to their elected officials with email templates, speaking at public meetings, raising awareness on social media, and speaking to the media.

Results

For the first time, the City of Indianapolis has committed to clearing snow from trails and protected bike lanes.

Central Indiana Cycling advocated for a reimagined snow removal plan and the Department of Public Works listened. The city’s progress with snow removal is exciting and we will continue to support policies that help you walk and roll safely and with dignity.
