Be the mentor you wish you had when you started riding. There’s a lot of joy in helping someone gain confidence in an area where they feel unsure, and having a hand problem-solving how to traverse the trickier parts of the city can make a big difference.
Every Weekend Ride should have one or more volunteers to serve as a “mentor” for new riders. The mentor should arrive 30 minutes early to help greet new riders, explain Dan Henrys, rest stops, “Car Back,” and answer any questions. If a mentor is not available, then the ride leader should attempt to identify new riders and make them feel comfortable. The mentors should plan to ride with the new rider(s) at their desired speed and distance to help them “learn the ropes” of CINC rides.
If you are willing to mentor new riders on any given ride – tell the ride leader and have him ask if there are any new riders who would like a mentor. It’s a great way to meet new people and make them feel included.
The Pedal and Park program encourages cycling over driving to get to and from events in our community by providing a free safe monitored bike parking area at local events. Pedal and Park volunteers are needed for set up, bike check-in & out, bike monitoring, and tear down for these events.

Be a friendly face and help lead weekly neighborhood bike rides in your community. We partner with local organizations across Central Indiana and will connect you with a ride near you. Have a neighborhood group that wants to host? Let us know—we’d love to build something together.
Ride Marshals are used in various Central Indiana Cycling rides to keep participants safe and provide guidance to participants during a ride by providing reminders to obey the rules, assist in filling gaps and encouraging riders to stay together.

Time commitment is flexible and based on interest and availability, with increased involvement leading up to events.
Support staff during events by helping with setup and teardown, check-in, wayfinding, tabling, and general event support. This role is ideal for dependable volunteers who are friendly, communicative, and comfortable working with the public. Time commitment is flexible and typically limited to the duration of the event, making it a great option for groups and one-time or occasional volunteers.
Assist staff with identifying funding opportunities and preparing grant applications that support our programs and advocacy work. This role involves research, drafting narratives, gathering required materials, and tracking deadlines. Ideal volunteers are detail-oriented, organized, and strong writers; prior grant writing experience is helpful but not required—training and support are provided. Estimated time commitment varies by time of year: 1–5 hours per month, with occasional additional time around grant deadlines.
Create visual, written, or multimedia content that helps tell our story and advance our mission. Volunteers may contribute in areas such as photography, videography, graphic or print design, short-form or long-form video, blog writing, social media content, or disruptive/creative art for campaigns and actions. Equipment, materials, software, and training can be provided as needed. This role is flexible and can be tailored to your skills, interests, and availability; strong communication and reliability are important.
No advocacy experience required. Learn how to support safer cycling infrastructure and livable streets through projects, direct support, and guided actions like emails, meetings, and community outreach. We want your ideas and passion to build a better tomorrow. Leadership opportunities available. Engagement is flexible—you choose how and when to plug in.
Help us share Central Indiana Cycling’s mission at community outreach events. We need individuals who enjoy talking about cycling to educate and inform our community on Central Indiana Cycling events and programs and encourage them to get involved.
